Social Responsibility

At Stalwood Homes, putting effort back into the community is an important aspect of being a good corporate citizen. From helping out with local festivals, community events and charitable causes, to sponsoring a local soccer team and individual athletes in international Olympic Games, Stalwood Homes is committed to excellence both on and off the field.

While we are proud of all our endeavours to support excellence, one of our proudest is Stalwood’s sponsorship of snow-boarder Matt Morison since 2006. An Olympic Silver Medalist in the world championship of snowboarding, Matt exemplifies the skill and commitment to a chosen field we value highly at Stalwood Homes. Of equal importance were the efforts of Special Olympics swimmer Tom Rousseau. He was one of 19 Team Canada members who traveled to Shanghai, China to participate in the Special Olympics World Summer Games. Given a great send-off from the local community sponsored by Stalwood Homes, he delighted his fans by winning a silver medal for the 25-metre butterfly, and another for the 50-metre event.

Team sports and encouraging team work is another area Stalwood takes pride in supporting. In the past, Stalwood Homes has sponsored a ski team at Devil’s Elbow and is a long-time sponsor of a minor hockey league team in Cobourg. Most recently, Stalwood took on sponsoring a new soccer team for Cavan, in the Cavan Football Club. This group of dedicated 11 and 12-year-olds has a great future and Stalwood was proud to supply them with their jerseys and equipment as they first took to the field.

Supporting educational excellence and the arts are another important area of social responsibility. As sponsors for Attitudes for Education, Stalwood Homes is proud of it’s contributions in providing high school graduates from Northumberland County with scholarships to assist them with the costs of continuing education. As a member of the Cobourg Museum Foundation Board, Stalwood president Al Rose is equally committed to supporting the arts. Stalwood’s contributions to the sensitive restoration of what is thought to be an original barracks building dating back to the War of 1812 extended to foundation work and designing removable panels for the floor to enable future archeological digs and assessments. An even more challenging project was helping St. Peter’s Church in Cobourg bring their major renovation project to completion, to the delight of everyone concerned.

Stalwood Homes also carries out many community works on an annual basis, and holds memberships in the local chamber of commerce as well as being a founding member of the Home Builders’ Association. It is a major contributor to the Rotary Waterfront Festival, Sportsman’s Night, and is a corporate sponsor of the Northumberland United Way Golf Tournament. Caring enough to do our very best at work and in the community – these are just some of the things that help to define Stalwood Homes!
